About Moov Medicine and Dr. Jeffrey LaVallee

Jeffrey R. Lavallee, MD is a Connecticut native. Throughout his life, exercise and sport has always been an important part of his life. In 1993, he became the U.S. Junior National Gymnastics All-Around Champion and subsequently competed internationally for the U.S. National Team. He competed in the 1996 and 2000 U.S. Gymnastics Championships and U. S. Olympic Trials.  In 1996, he attended University of Massachusetts - Amherst as an undergraduate and graduated magna cum laude in Sports Studies. As an undergraduate he competed as an NCAA Division I gymnast becoming a six time NCAA All-American.  In 2000, he was awarded the University of Massachusetts Male Student-Athlete of the Year and was awarded the Nissen-Emery Award at the NCAA Men’s Gymnastics National Championships which is presented to the most outstanding senior male collegiate gymnast in the United States. Before entering medical school at the University of Connecticut, he enjoyed working as a gymnastics instructor and assistant coach for the University of Massachusetts. During this same time period he also worked for NBC Sports as a production assistant during nationally televised broadcasts of sporting events, including the 2004 Olympics Games. 

Upon graduating from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine he completed his residency training in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Throughout his residency training he maintained a strong interest in sports medicine and he volunteered at many local sporting events. For two seasons he was the associate team physician for the Monticello High School Football Team and assisted with medical care for University of Virginia Athletics. In 2015, he was on medical staff for the U.S. Gymnastics National Championships.

Following residency training, he completed an ACGME accredited primary care sports medicine fellowship at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle where there was an emphasis on becoming skilled in both diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal ultrasound. He acquired skills in fluoroscopic guided spine procedures and routinely performed percutaneous tenotomy procedures with the Tenex TX-1 device under ultrasound guidance.  He helped to provide medical care as an assistant team physician for Seattle University Athletics, WNBA Seattle Storm and NWSL Seattle Reign FC.  

Following post graduate training, he began practicing medicine with Paul Tortland, DO at the New England Stem Cell Institute in Glastonbury, Connecticut where they specialized in advanced  interventional orthopedic and orthobiologic based treatments for common orthopedic injuries and degenerative conditions. He became board certified by the American Board of Regenerative Medicine and has been performing platelet rich plasma and autologous mesenchymal stem cell procedures since 2017. He attended multiple regenerative medicine workshops and became certified by the International Orthopedic Foundation in advanced interventional orthopedic procedures in the spine, shoulder, hip, knee and ankle. In 2019, he was part of the teaching faculty at the 2019 Orthobiologic Institute Conference’s bone marrow aspirate cadaver workshop where he taught other physicians how to perform advanced orthobiologic procedures. 

In 2020, Dr. LaVallee joined Hartford Heatlhcare where he became the Sports Medicine Director within the Physical Medicine Department. He is also a member of the Sports Health Service line within the Bone and Joint Institute where he collaborates with other sports medicine physicians, physical therapists, dieticians and athletic trainers to provide comprehensive musculoskeletal care.  He is an associate professor within the University of Connecticut Medical School where he teaches medical students and resident physicians musculoskeletal ultrasound and orthopedic medicine. He is the team physician for Glastonbury High School Athletics where he volunteers as sideline physician for home football games. 

Dr. LaVallee is married to his wife Kelly who was a UMass Cheerleader and high school soccer player.  They have three young boys and enjoy keeping busy with their various activities and sporting events. They all enjoy hiking, skiing, biking and swimming.
